“It was a dream come true for me to see Dravid signing off on high in the ODI”, quoted a fan of Rahul Dravid.
I was actually waiting for this moment to let you all realize that Cricket is not Religion, it’s a profession, it’s a business. Hadn’t the Indian players got injured and unfit for the ODIs, who would have thought RD’s inclusion in ODI squad against England this season? Sorry to say Mr.Dravid but I strongly reprimand your farewell.
Performance?? NO
When I question his exclusion from the team and you answer it by saying “Bad Performance”, I feel cheated. Rahul Dravid was back in blue jersey when he was selected for the Compaq and ICC Champions trophy. Even after being the 2nd highest run getter in championship series, he was dropped. I agree that RD isn’t natural to ODI format. But his numbers are favorably against the best ones in format. He is amongst the top ten players, be it the no of matches played or the no of runs scored. Scoring 10,820 runs is just like ‘To Bend Over Backwards’.
Fitness?? A big NO
This ‘attribute’ of RD can’t be questioned. He has never troubled the Physio of the team. I bet, you can hardly recall any game from which RD was dropped considering his fitness. Today at the age of 38, he can even walk on water if demanded.
I know you all would say ‘Arey aur bhi cheezein hoti hain’ (apart from above two, there are other aspects too), on the basis of which a player is opted out from the team. But I can’t think of any.
I don’t demand RD to be back in ODIs because just like any other profession, cricket too has a retirement age. But what concerns me is that players like Rahul Dravid, and many others to name, should be given proper send-offs and not a fake farewell. Hadn’t been Dravid included in ODIs again, you wouldn’t have remembered him as a great ODI player as you would do now.
Because you are used to a GOOD END SHOW.

ReplyDeletethese kind of comments can from a true fan only and rightly so !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice to see him play in ODIs again. I still feel sometimes board's policies get too hard on players. Age is not just the only thing. They should better let the player decide it.
